Hiwassee College is a member of the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) [15935 Forest Road, Forest, VA 24551; Telephone: (434) 525-9539; e-mail:] having been awarded Reaffirmation I of its Accredited Status as a Category II institution by the TRACS Accreditation Commission on October 30, 2018. This status is effective for a period of ten years. TRACS is recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDOE), the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), and the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE). 
The Hiwassee College Dental Hygiene program is a member of the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) having progressed to the status of Approval Without Reporting Requirements in August 2013.  CODA is nationally recognized by the United States Department of Education as the sole agency to accredit dental and dental-related education programs conducted at the post-secondary level.
Hiwassee College is listed by the University Senate of The United Methodist Church. The senate is an elected body of professionals in higher education created by the General Conference to determine which schools, colleges, universities, and theological schools meet the criteria for listing as institutions affiliated with The United Methodist Church.
Accreditation ensures that students have access to Pell Grants and all other grants, scholarships, and loans provided by the state and federal government and private institutions. In addition, accreditation ensures that students are eligible to receive Tennessee HOPE funds.
